The Department of Textiles and Paper, which promotes research in textile technology, technical textiles, textile design and conservation, is part of the University’s School of Materials. Cutting edge technology and performance materials are developed for such diverse industries as aerospace, automotive, biomedical, filtration, geotextiles, construction, sportswear and personal protection.
In order to extend our support for these areas, in which Britain continues to excel, we have in recent years developed links with Manchester to complement those already established with The University of Leeds.
We have made grants in excess of £500,000 towards equipment for the Department and bursaries for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
In order to foster collaboration between the two major academic centres in textiles in the UK, we have also made grants to Manchester and Leeds totalling £320,000 for joint research in non-woven materials.
