Textile Conservation

Pictures of textile conservationWe have been a significant supporter of the Centre for Textile Conservation for many years, when it was part of Southampton University at Winchester and now at Glasgow University.  In addition to funding for capital needs, we provide bursaries each year to two students taking the MPhil course.

When the Centre’s future was under threat, we also made available a grant of £140,000 to Historic Royal Palaces to fund a series of internships at the textile conservation programme based at Hampton Court Palace.

We have funded a number of centres which undertake conservation within major institutions.  The most significant recent grants have been £1 million to the Victoria & Albert Museum towards the Clothworkers’ Centre for Textiles and Fashion Study and Conservation, and £750,000 to the British Museum for the new Clothworkers’ Organics Conservation Studio. Support has also been provided to conservation facilities at Blickling Hall (National  Trust), Hopetoun House in Edinburgh, the Bowes Museum and the People’s History Museum.
