Current Role and Activity

The Company’s role today is essentially philanthropic.  We are a membership organisation which fosters fellowship and encourages an interest in charity and civil society amongst those who belong to it.

The income from the Company’s property and investments is used to run its affairs, and the net profit passed to the affiliated charity, The Clothworkers’ Foundation, for distribution to a wide range of causes.

Since we no longer have a direct role in our root trade, the Company has recently decided that Trusteeship should be its common purpose and that, over time, the majority of its Liverymen should be actively involved in civil society.
