Historically, Leeds has been at the forefront of research and teaching in colour. This expertise primarily resides in the Department of Colour Science, but also within the School of Design.
Although the Department’s work was originally focused on textile dyeing, today its activities encompass a range of applications, from medicine and dentistry to anti-counterfeit and digital entertainment, in addition to textiles.
The core team has been successful in attracting research income from industry sponsors in the UK and internationally.
The Clothworkers’ Foundation has been a consistent supporter of Colour Science through grants for equipment, student bursaries and most recently building fit-out.
